Energy Efficiency Award

Hotel’s carbon footprint savings equivalent to removing 139 vehicles from roads for 1 year

St. Louis, April 19, 2010 – The Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch has received nearly $60,000 through Laclede Gas rebate and AmerenUE incentive programs. The awards were made following the hotel’s $63 million renovation, which included the installation of a state-ofthe-art heating and cooling system that manages energy usage throughout the building.

“Being smart about energy usage just makes good business sense, especially when dealing with a building as large as ours,” said Brian Morris, director of sales for the Hyatt. “We noticed immediate energy cost savings after installing our new system and have seen even more benefit because of the AmerenUE and Laclede Gas programs.” The Hyatt’s Telkonet heating and cooling system communicates with the hotel’s front desk computers to automatically bring guest rooms to a comfortable 70 degrees from a seasonally adjusted setback temperature upon check in. Guests set their room’s temperature to suit their preferences and motion sensors maintain those levels as long as there is movement within the space. If guests leave the room, the system resets to 70 degrees until they return.

Front desk computers communicate with the system again upon check out, taking the room to the setback temperature for maximum energy savings.
